We offer our services through our highly valued network of trusted partners. These organisations, both inside and outside the UMCG, help us to achieve our goals:
In line with the UMCG’s mission, the Innovation Center aims to cover the overall innovation process as a one-stop-shop from idea to society, including implementation and adoption, as one continuous process. The combined expertises and activities enable the UMCG and its employees to strengthen its ability to be an innovation engine regionally, nationally and internationally.
There are several areas of expertise, strategic partnerships and ecosystems, on which the Innovation Center is involved in – may it be as a coordinating locus, or a supporting partner. These strategic partnerships and ecosystems refer to the interconnected network of individuals, research organizations, public and private entities, addressing different and complex challenges in healthcare, MedTech, sustainability, drug development etc. Each of these initiatives operates within the broader healthcare landscape, but has its unique goals, challenges, and stakeholders. Collaboration and innovation within these specialised ecosystems contribute to advancements in their respective fields and ultimately benefit patients, healthcare providers, and society as a whole.
Through the Personalised Connected Health ecosystem, companies and healthcare and research institutions work together on establishing new methods with software and hardware devices for personalised health. The ecosystem improves the chances of commercial success for Personalized & Connected Health applications by bringing relevant parties together to collaborate on projects, or discuss challenges and opportunities. Research results are shared and discussed, and applicable information is distributed during communal expert sessions.
iMPaCT-implants focuses on a multifaceted journey with six interconnected research lines, each addressing critical aspects of medical implant innovation. The program will optimise implant design workflows and innovate the next generation of individualized 3D-designed devices, including knee, airway, wrist and jaw implants for complex bone defects and fractures.
Lifelines NEXT
Lifelines Next is a birth cohort with 1500 newborns and their mothers and fathers including deep fenotyping. It uses all information from questionnaires, measurements and body materials such as blood, faeces and breast milk provided by Lifelines NEXT participants. By linking all the answers and the measurement and research results, Lifelines NEXT hopes to find out which factors cause a disease to develop and how this could be prevented.
Pharma Portal provides access to relevant knowledge and expertise, available at academic research institutes and SMEs, to accelerate and increase the chance of success for development of innovative new drugs, delivery systems, biomarkers and diagnostics. By identifying, aligning and incorporating locally available expertise, combined with acquired external proficiency, the Pharma Portal has built an infrastructure for regional academic and corporate scientists enabling high quality developments.
Hi!Noord accelerates the transition from healthcare to 'care for health' in the Northern Netherlands. This is necessary - the current system, in which action is only taken when someone's health falters, is unsustainable, both in terms of costs and staffing.
Improving drug adherence has direct impact on disease burden and longterm outcomes. MAECON is an expertise center providing services in technology support, patient studies and expert advice on innovative approaches on improvement of drug adherence.
BiomarkerBay brings together academic expertise and contract research to identify, develop and perform analysis for biomarker & companion diagnostic assays. It aims at making knowledge and capabilities on biomarkers, bioanalytics and biobanks from the UMCG available for companies and other external organizations working in the field.
Is a not-for-profit institute with the ambition to advance the medical and pharmaceutical field through AI education and research. It empowers participants to apply AI themselves within their businesses and organisations. The exquAIro foundation is able to fund innovative research streams at the interface of AI and biomedicine.
The UMCG takes part in several strategic partnerships, as well as the development of funding opportunities and networks that enable new initiatives. The Innovation Center plays an active role in sustaining these partnerships, coordinating and connecting the right partners. In addition, we provide guidance on regional and EU funding opportunities, as well as setting up future collaborations.
10-year strategic partnership between the UMCG and Siemens in personalised healthcare.
The UMCG and Siemens have a long standing strategic partnership for the development and deployment of new imaging techniques in the clinic. Within this collaboration, imaging information is linked to laboratory data. This is used to develop new diagnostics and therapies tailored to the individual patient, or 'personalized healthcare'.
UMCG and Roche strategic partnership.
The UMCG has a strategic partnership with Roche diagnostics on improving laboratory diagnostics in research and clinical practice.
EIT Health
EIT Health was established in 2015, as a ‘knowledge and innovation community’ (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EIT is made up of various KICs who each focus on a different sector, or area, of innovation – in our case, that is health and aging. Find out more about the EIT opportunities and UMCG involvement here.
HTRIC
The Health Technology Research and Innovation Cluster (HTRIC) brings academic research, health technology and clinical practice together to tackle the challenges faced by today’s healthcare system. Through collaboration and research, it fosters new developments that support healthy ageing and longevity, while improving people’s quality of life and making healthcare more efficient.
