TRAILS - TRacking Adolescents’ Individual Lives Survey

 TRAILS is an ongoing, multidisciplinary research on the development of adolescents and young adults. Cohort
TRAILS is an ongoing, multidisciplinary research on the development of adolescents and young adults.
TRAILS follows young people for a long period of time to measure the psychological, social and physical development and the factors affecting this.

More than 2500 individuals have been followed since they were about 11 years old, for over 20 years. The TRAILS participants have been assessed every two to three years, through questionnaires, interviews, tests, and physical measures. We have collected information not only about the TRAILS participants themselves but also about their parents and, since 2015, about their children.

 

TRAILS aims to:

  • gain more knowledge about determinants of health and functioning in the adolescence and –young– adulthood;
  • contribute to better prevention of mental and physical health problems;
  • identify groups with a high risk of developing health problems without proper care.

    • Population cohort (N = 2230, started in 2000);
    • TRAILS CC; Clinical cohort (N=543, started in 2004);
    • Offspring cohort (N > 500, started in 2015);
    • Age at first wave 10-12 years;
    • Measurement waves every two to three years;
    • Information from different sources: participants, parents, teachers, classmates, siblings, romantic partners;
    • Information about a wide range of social, psychological, and biological factors.
