University of Groningen invests 30 million euros in research thanks to donation

News
Through the investment of a donation from an anonymous alumnus, the Ubbo Emmius Fund (UEF) can once again invest 30 million euros in research. This fund is affiliated with the University of Groningen (RUG). The money will be allocated across three research projects, including the Health Technology Research and Innovation Cluster (HTRIC).

One of the strengths of the HTRIC programme is the collaboration between the Faculty of Science & Engineering and the UMCG, where fundamental scientists work together with clinicians to solve clinical problems. The HTRIC programme will receive 18.4M euros of the total amount for further development.

Support in different fields of research

HTRIC includes research on rapid diagnostics for sepsis, cancer treatments using light, and new methods for visualising infections. The funding will support doctors, technicians, and companies involved in the research.

UMCG-based biobank Acutelines is heavily engaged in sepsis research to improve early recognition of sepsis and develop novel treatments to improve outcome for patients with sepsis.

Acutelines: facilitating emergency care research

Acutelines is initiated to improve recognition and treatment of acute diseases and obtain insight in the consequences of acute diseases, including factors predicting its outcome.

Thereby, Acutelines contributes to development of personalized treatment and improves prediction of patient outcomes during and after an acute admission
