INDEPTH PPP Program

The INDEPTH vision

Depression affects nearly one in five people during their lifetime. Despite available therapies, 20–30% of patients do not recover with standard treatment and develop treatment-resistant depression. In the Netherlands alone, depression leads to approximately €1.6 billion in direct healthcare costs and €1.8 billion in lost productivity each year.

INDEPTH aims to close the gap between research and care by facilitating the development, validation and implementation of innovative treatment strategies. These include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, as well as advanced clinical decision-making tools that use neurobiological insights, data science, and artificial intelligence.

The program is coordinated by University Medical Centre Groningen and involves key stakeholders, such as GGZ inGeest, Pro Persona and Parnassia Groep. It builds on already existing data-infrastructure collaboration in the Netherlands Network for Difficult-to-Treat Depression and is supported by the nationwide clinical network DepressieNet.

The INDEPTH PPP program

The INDEPTH PPP program is made possible via the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) subsidy scheme introduced by the Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation - Life Sciences & Health (TKI-LSH aka Health~Holland). Through the program, parties can apply for PPP projects with the PPP subsidy from Health~Holland.

An amount of 4 million Euros PPP subsidy has been allocated to the INDEPTH Program to distribute among and support collaborative projects by issuing a Call for projects to run between 2026 and 2031. Below you find additional information about the INDEPTH program consortium and the funding scheme. For additional information, please reach out to [email protected]

  • The Program is part of the Health Holland PPP subsidy scheme which aims to develop partnerships with industry, by issuing a Call for projects, allocate resources, and oversee their implementation. The program welcomes applications for collaborative projects of healthcare institutes and companies focused on applied research on treatment-resistant depression within two domains:

    1. the development and further advancement of innovative treatments and applications for treatment-resistant depression;
    2. the development and optimization of tools for clinical decision‑making based on neurobiological and technological innovation.

    Project ideas will be evaluated on academic and societal impact as well as on the more direct economic impact.

  • Through the program, parties have the opportunity to jointly apply for PPP projects.

    Applications are welcome 1st of April 2026.
