What is the current state of maternal care within a maternity collaboration unit (VSV)?

Care providers in maternity care have the ability to generate summaries from their electronic health records for their own hospital or midwifery practice affiliated with the regional Verloskundig Samenwerkings Verband (VSV), but benchmarking (comparing data within the VSV) is currently not possible or lacks the manpower to do so. Additionally, national-level benchmarking is also not possible because data from primary midwifery care is missing in the national maternity care data registry, Perined.

With this study, we aim to extract benchmark data from the electronic health records for each participating VSV and Kraamzorg het Groene Kruis in the Northern Netherlands that aligns with the integrated maternity care indicators (e.g., parity, mode of birth, education level, gender of the baby, induction of labour, BMI). We aim to collect data from the VSV Rondom Zwangerschap, VSV Martini, VSV Ommelander, VSV Assen, VSV Zwolle and VSV Stad en Ommeland. We will organize a reflection meeting per VSV to present the data to the maternal care professionals.

Relevance

Insight into the health of pregnant women and recent mothers in the North of the Netherlands

In maternity care, it is crucial to have insight into the health of pregnant women and recent mothers. A robust data infrastructure, in which routine data from care providers (midwives and gynecologists) is analyzed and valuable insights are fed back into the field, is key to better care and healthier outcomes for both mother and child.
