Optimising deprescribing of cardiometabolic medication

My PhD research focuses on improving timely deintensification of cardiovascular and/or diabetes medication in older patients. By studying the effects of training healthcare providers in effectively supporting patients throughout the deprescribing process (i.e., from establishing what matters most to the patient, to making decisions together about how monitoring effects of medication changes), we aim to increase proactive deprescribing in Dutch primary care. Ultimately, this should lead to improved patient outcomes, less inappropriate medication use, less adverse drug effects, and more tailored treatments.
