Bridging gender gaps in mental health research

As a clinical researcher and former psychologist, my mission is to improve mental health outcomes. My PhD research focused on exercise therapy for depression, where I observed that women are less active and at higher risk for depression. Hormonal transitions, such as the menstrual cycle, seem to play a crucial role in both. However, there remains a persistent gender gap in research, with women’s health often being overlooked. To address this, we are developing a diary to track the menstrual cycle in clinical practice in the CycleWise study. The goal is to improve diagnostics and treatment precision. Ultimately, I aim to enhance women’s mental health by translating research into personalized (lifestyle) interventions.
