Fatty liver and cardiovascular disease are major threats to our society. Basic translational research can make the difference.

The liver plays a central role in whole body energy metabolism through the delivery of and uptake of lipids. Attenuation these processes can cause accumulation of lipids in the liver (causing fatty liver and worse) as well as blood (causing heart attacks).

In our laboratory, we are setting up innovative state-of-the-art models to study liver lipid transport. Findings in cells, and experimental animals are translated to human health and disease.

Collaborations

We work closely with the team of Bart van de Sluis, sharing PhD students and postdocs to foster interdisciplinary research.

Relevance

Achieving cardiometabolic health

Our overall aim is to provide molecular handles to develop novel liver-directed therapy to decrease the burden of cardiometabolic disease.
