Leaving no one behind in the digital transformation of health

Digital health innovations are often designed for the majority, overlooking the unique needs of underrepresented groups. Yet it is precisely those at the margins-people with low socioeconomic status, migrants, and the elderly-who are most at risk of experiencing health inequities. When well-intentioned digital tools unintentionally deepen these disparities, we speak of intervention-generated inequities. If we want the digital transformation of healthcare to succeed, we must ensure that its benefits reach everyone-not just those already empowered. My social-democratic values inspire me to give voice to those often unheard in public discourse, and to advocate for care that centers on inclusion and human dignity. As Project Lead for the national initiative Citrienfonds Digitaal Mee in de Zorg and as a PhD candidate at the UMCG, I focus on strategies to make digital health more accessible and equitable. My work explores how to engage non-users and ensure that digital healthcare tools reflect the diversity of real-world patients. With a background in pharmacy, healthcare management, and political engagement, I bring an interdisciplinary approach to innovation and accessibility. I am committed to building a healthcare system that is not only technologically advanced but also just, humane, and future-ready. Because meaningful progress in healthcare must benefit all-and never lose sight of the people it serves.
