Evelyn is a full professor of Nursing Science and Education at the University Medical Center Groningen/ University of Groningen. She is a nurse, non-practising, and health scientist. The research results contribute to the quality of life of frail persons and improve and support professional activities in this context. Her research is characterised by interprofessional and cross-border thinking, connecting many partners in the field and educational and knowledge institutions, and embedding research results in sustainable, practical solutions. Her research themes are frailty research, person-centred care and professional development (incl. professional identity) of nurses. In addition to research, Evelyn pays much attention to education. In addition to her full professorship at the UMCG she is also a professor at NHL Stenden and the Hanzehogeschool University of Applied Sciences. Furthermore, she is a member of national committees to improve healthcare and nursing education. She is on the advisory board of the new Bachelor of Nursing 2030 curriculum development program.
