The aim of the VASCULIFES bio- and database is to gain insight into patient characteristics, underlying disease processes, treatments, and their short- and long-term outcomes. In addition, VASCULIFES aims to enable thorough quality control of our treatments. Such a bio- and database for vascular pathology is currently not available at the UMCG.

The basis of the VASCULIFES biobank is to establish an infrastructure for patients who undergo a vascular treatment at the UMCG. Patients are included after obtaining informed consent. Included patients are of legal age (> 18 years) and competent. Special groups (minors, incapacitated) are excluded. The aim is to collect a limited selection of data for the entire group of patients, with the possibility of collecting more detailed data for smaller patient groups for shorter or longer periods, to be determined later. This could involve joining existing studies or cohorts, but also new initiatives and treatment methods developed in the future. The data and body materials of patients are collected for the most part as part of routine diagnostics and treatment.
