The immune system in pregnancy complications

I am currently conducting my research at the department of pathology and medical biology, in close collaboration with the department of obstetrics and gynecology. My focus lies on the immune environment of the placenta and its role in the development and progression of various pregnancy complications. Pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, and fetal growth restriction have lasting negative effects on both mother and fetus. By looking specifically at the maternal and fetal macrophages of the placenta, I hope to gain insight into the pathophysiology of these pregnancy complications and the potential options for their management and treatment.
