Working with hearing loss

As an occupational physician, I have encountered cases of workers experiencing difficulties due to hearing loss. This can lead to fatigue and absenteeism, for example due to burnout. This is a growing issue because of the increased retirement age. My research focuses on the consequences of working with hearing loss, such as risks for sustainable employability, reduced work ability and increased absenteeism. In a subsequent publication, we will address barriers and facilitators to working with hearing loss. To date, our research has focused on teachers, a profession characterised by frequent communication. In an upcoming study, we will analyse data from the Lifelines database.
