Summer school Data Science and AI in health 2022 edition gets off to a flying start

The 2022 edition of our Summer School Data Science and AI in Health got off to a flying start last Monday! The aim of this week is to introduce young, enthusiastic researchers to the principles of data science and AI in health care and clinical research. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this edition is also taking place online.

Educational programme

The overarching theme is lung diseases. Within this context, participants explore how diagnosis and treatment can be improved using data science and AI. The week kicked off with a welcome by Peter Van Ooijen, followed by an introduction on AI in Biomedical Sciences by Elena Sügis and a presentation by Mirjam Plantinga on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues of AI in Health. 

Furthermore, the participants attended interesting presentations by Esther Metting, Maaike de Vries and Kerstin Bunte, among others, and got to work with the Machine Learning Canvas under the guidance of Peter van Ooijen. The evenings are filled with a social programme, where this Wednesday the AI Escape Room of Hendrik Erenstein was played. 

Future of AI in Medicine 

Tomorrow, the summer school will conclude with an interactive session 'The Future of AI in Medicine' chaired by Bart Scheerder, the final presentations, an interactive panel discussion and a networking event in cooperation with Novartis, Oro Muscles, Reperio, Researchable and Syntho

The Summer School 'Data Science and AI in Health' is organised in cooperation with one or more local partners, such as PACE Innovation & Connected Care (UMCG), Centre for Information and Technology - Data Science (UoG) and dHealth Lab and one or more commercial partners.
