Advancing Smiles, Transforming Lives: Pioneering Research in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
We explore new techniques and innovative ideas on the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Diseases and Special Dental Care.

Research aims

Our aim is to study new techniques and to explore innovative ideas in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Diseases and Special Dental Care. We also investigate and develop diagnostic methods, medical devices, effects of modern therapeutic drugs, and new instruments.
An important goal is to translate our findings into daily patient care.
Our department collaborates with numerous local, national and international research groups from different specialties. Our researchers are leading members in several international research groups and organizations.

Oral health is crucial for overall well-being and directly impacts our ability to speak, smile, smell, taste, chew, swallow, and express emotions. Despite its importance, oral diseases - ranging from cavities, gingivitis, impacted teeth, missing teeth, mucosal diseases, temporomandibular disorders, maxillofacial deformities, traumatology to oral cancer - can cause significant discomfort, pain, and impairment.
Our research focuses on advancing the field by developing innovative diagnostic tools, cutting-edge therapeutic drugs, and state-of-the-art devices. We are dedicated to improving oral health through research in:

  • dentoalveolar surgery incl. dental implantology
  • facial injuries and deformities
  • trauma
  • jaw reconstruction, clefts and bone diseases
  • oral, head & neck cancer
  • oral medicine and pathology
  • temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders

Our goal is the direct applicability of our findings to daily clinical practice. We aim to improve patient care and help our colleagues to help patients.

Relevance

How our research benefits to society

Our mission is to integrate our groundbreaking research findings into everyday clinical practice to advance the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases. By bridging the gap between research and practice, we strive to offer cutting-edge solutions that improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall quality of care.

In addition, we are dedicated to sharing our knowledge and innovations through a range of educational programs. We offer specialized courses designed to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including dental undergraduates, residents, interns and practicing oral health professionals. These courses are crafted to provide valuable insights and practical skills that can be directly applied to clinical settings, ensuring that both current and future practitioners are well-equipped with the latest advancements in the field.

Through this dual approach - advancing clinical practice and fostering continuous education - we aim to make a significant impact on oral health care and contribute to the ongoing development of the profession.
