NWO grant for research on postnatal liver growth and liver cancer

The liver keeps growing after birth until it reaches an optimal size for proper functioning. Moreover, the liver has the unique capacity to regenerate after liver damage. It achieves this by generating new liver cells, and once it attains a size adequate for proper functioning, the repair process stops. This whole process is tightly regulated, but if this regulation process goes wrong, it can lead to severe liver damage, including liver cancer. Our research aims to provide more insights into the processes of liver growth after birth and liver damage, and how these processes impact liver cancer.
