Did you know that there are more than 175 cohorts and biobanks in the UMCG? Our commitment to collaboration, the close relationship between research and healthcare and the combination of population and clinical cohorts makes Groningen such a good place for cohort and biobank research. Our cohorts are characterized by extensive data collection, deep phenotyping and long follow-up; even across generations. And all thanks to our loyal participants in the North of the Netherlands.

  • Because our clinical cohorts are an integrated part of our healthcare processes, we have a continuous inclusion of new participants and collection of clinically relevant real-world data. There is also an efficient collaboration between our research laboratories and clinical departments, which ensures quick adaptations and a common understanding.

  • To coordinate and support cohort-driven research, the UMCG has set up the Cohort and Biobank Coordination Hub, which serves as a central facilitator and information node for all activities concerning UMCG cohorts and biobanks.
