Carian Boorsma is a business developer specialized in cohorts and biobanks. Using her experience in both science and business, she facilitates research collaborations between researchers and commercial companies. Carian is also a business developer for BiomarkerBay, where companies can access the facilities of the UMCG such as various bioanalysis platforms, clinical expertise of key scientists and assay development services. Carian gained her PhD degree at the pharmacy department of the University of Groningen, investigating the role of macrophages in lung diseases. After her PhD, she transitioned to the biotechnology company, IQ Products. Here, she worked in commercial roles, including manager marketing and sales. Since 2021, she’s part of the innovation center and part of the Cohort and Biobank Coordination Hub; a central network organization for all biobank activities with the aim to improve the quality of collections and increase visibility.
