Bart started his career in 2003 as a Clinical Research Associate for an academic contract research organization affiliated with the UMCG. In this role he worked across Europe with hospitals, investigators and industry partners in a broad range of therapeutic areas. He later became clinical project manager, managing both investigator-initiated studies and industry-sponsored clinical trials, including full-service CRO projects. In 2013 he moved into business development, initially with a focus on data, biobanks and public-private collaboration.

Today, Bart focuses on strategy and partnerships around data, technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare. He is affiliated with the UMCG Data Science Center in Health (DASH), the Applied AI Accelerator Lab (A3 Lab) and the UMCG Innovation Center. His work centers on translating AI, data science and digital innovation into meaningful applications for care, research and education. He also contributes to regional, national and international collaborations, including the Dutch AI Factory and broader initiatives to strengthen the health innovation ecosystem.

In 2021 he completed his MBA with research into the digital health innovation ecosystem of the Northern Netherlands. Across his activities, Bart connects researchers, clinicians, companies and public partners to develop strategic partnerships that support the UMCG’s ambitions and accelerate responsible innovation in healthcare.
