Davide Cinat, a UMCG-researcher in the Barazzuol and Coppes groups who has recently received his PhD can do his research during 24 months at the Standord University thanks to a Rubicon grant from NWO. The Rubicon programme gives young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience.

Davide Cinat will be working at Standord on the project entitled “Broken signals in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: unraveling how impaired RNA editing fuels inflammation using patient-derived organoids”.

Chronic gut inflammation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is characterized by persistent immune system problems; however, the exact causes remain unclear. Recent studies suggest a virus-like inflammatory response in some IBD patients. The researcher will investigate how these responses lead to chronic inflammation and work to develop new treatments for these patients.
