VR project: Virtual reality for diabetic well-being

Research
Using virtual reality to reduce psychological distress for diabetic patients.

This project explores how virtual reality (VR) can support people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in managing their psychological distress and improving their disease management. Many individuals with T2DM face anxiety and depression, which can make it harder to control their condition. Traditional mental health therapies are often too expensive, unavailable, or difficult to access.

The aim is to create a VR-based solution designed specifically for T2DM patients, offering an immersive way to reduce distress and encourage healthier behaviours. By collaborating with healthcare professionals and patients, the project will develop a protocol that is accessible, effective and suitable for both primary and hospital care. The study will evaluate how VR is feasible, acceptable, and how it impacts mental health and self-care, with the goal of improving overall health outcomes.
