General rules

Always follow the instructions of our staff.

Admission and reservation

Individual training

First, register as a user and follow an individual training by UMIC staff for each instrument. Training by other parties does not count!

Reservations

Reservations can be made up till 2 weeks ahead (up to 3 hours slots/day)

Weekends, evening hours and holidays can also be reserved by experienced users
Microscope service/repairs always have priority
If reservations need to be cancelled, undo your reservation in Bookedscheduler, or ask the staff
If you are 15 minutes late without notification, your reservation can be cancelled

Fees

Users will be charged with an hourly fee No-shows will be charged the hourly fee
When you booking changed, please adjust your time slot in Bookedscheduler
It is not permitted to use any equipment without booking
Bills will be sent to your department on a quarterly basis

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and METc

•   GMOs are only allowed in ML1 areas
•   Indicate the use of GMOs.
•   Register the number(s) of GMO permit(s) in Bookedscheduler.
•   Act on ML-1 level in ML-1 rooms
•   Register METc numbers in Bookedscheduler

Computers and data

•   Users are responsible for all the data their data
•   Users are not allowed to install software in the center
•   The only purpose of our computers is image processing!
•   A data policy on data storage is provided at every microscope and workstation
•   Data can be stored on-line using Omero. Ask UMIC staff for access

Using the incucytes

•   The Incucytes may only be used by trained and registered users
•   Time intervals must be a multiple of ½ hour, 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes etc
•   Book every plate separately in BookedScheduler Plates not in Booked Scheduler can be trashed ww/o notic
•   Plates inside the IncuCyte stove will be trashed w/o notice

Responsible use of equipment

•   Training provides you with the basic knowledge to operate a microscope
•   In case of malfunctioning please contact the staff
•   Follow the start-up / shut-down / stand-by instruction next to the microscope. Be careful with using oil immersion. Not all objectives can be used with oil-immersion.
•   Clean the spills immediately.
•   A 63x lens at the LeicaSP8x is a glycerol lens and should not be used with oil
•   Oil spills can be cleaned using 70% ethanol on a lenspaper.
•   Oil is toxic.
•   Do not clean the lens with tissues, use lenspaper
