News
The department of Human Movement Sciences (UMCG) is proud to announce its participation in the newly approved ENLIGHT+ consortium NeuroBalance. This international initiative brings together leading institutions — UMCG, Ghent University, and Comenius University Bratislava — to address balance disorders in individuals with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke.

Balance disorders significantly impact quality of life, increasing the risk of falls and long-term care needs. NeuroBalance aims to tackle these challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative education, and joint research. The consortium will organize virtual and hybrid workshops, guest lectures, and develop shared digital resources to enhance learning opportunities for students and healthcare professionals. It also seeks to raise awareness around inclusion and disability while fostering international mobility and cooperation.

Planned activities include:

  • A kick-off workshop introducing the network and exploring partner expertise.
  • Creation of a shared repository of teaching materials and case studies.
  • Student awareness campaigns and simulation-based training using advanced technologies such as VR/AR and wearable sensors.
  • Collaborative research initiatives supported by ENLIGHT incubator grants and other funding programs.

This partnership strengthens UMCG’s commitment to innovation in rehabilitation and education, offering new opportunities for international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
