UMCG Innovation Centure lecture: The required non-academic efforts to innovate in an academic hospital – UMCG 3D Lab

The UMCG Innovation Center warmly invites colleagues and regional partners to an inspiring Innovation Lecture by Prof. Max Witjes, Professor at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, UMCG, and co-founder of the 3D Lab Groningen.

Innovation within academic hospitals extends beyond scientific innovations and clinical expertise. This lecture explores the often underappreciated non-academic efforts required to successfully translate ideas into impactful healthcare solutions. Drawing on practical experiences from starting the 3D lab at UMCG, the critical roles are highlighted of organizational alignment, stakeholder engagement, regulatory navigation, funding strategies, and cultural change. The lecture emphasizes that sustainable innovation depends not only on research excellence, but also on collaboration across disciplines as well as the practical challenges and enabling factors that shape innovation in an academic hospital setting.

This lecture is for you if:

  • you’re curious about the intersection of technology and healthcare
