UMCG Announces Selected Projects for PPP Innovation Subsidy Scheme - Pilot Call 2024

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is pleased to announce the results of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Innovation Subsidy – Pilot Call 2024. This initiative, launched in 2024, aimed to support industrial research through collaborations between UMCG researchers and private partners, with a particular focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Northern Netherlands.

The PPP Innovation Subsidy is made possible through funding from Health Holland, the communication portal for the Top Sector Life Sciences & Health (LSH), under the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. A total budget of €1.7 million has been allocated for this Pilot Call, providing substantial financial support to advance innovative research partnerships.

Following a selection process, UMCG Innovation Center has now identified 7 projects that will receive funding under this Call. These projects, set to start shortly, span a diverse range of research areas, all with strong potential for societal, scientific, and economic impact.

Diverse Research Areas and Regional Collaboration

The selected projects primarily focus on industrial research, reflecting a high level of innovation and translational potential. They bring together a diverse range of companies, including several regional industries, highlighting UMCG’s commitment to public-private partnerships within the Northern Netherlands.

The research topics cover a broad spectrum of medical and life sciences fields, including:

  • innovative rehabilitation techniques to improve patient recovery and quality of life
  • disease mechanisms, novel diagnostic approaches, biomarkers and therapeutic strategies
  • immunotherapies for various diseases, with a focus on precision medicine and targeted interventions.

With the funding secured, the selected project teams will now start implementing their plans, benefiting from the collaboration between academic researchers and private sector innovators. The PPP Innovation Subsidy has shown to be a strategic tool to ensure these partnerships can move forward, accelerating the development of new technologies and treatments.
