Shining Light on Neonatal Jaundice

My research focuses on neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, specifically the screening and diagnosis of severe neonatal jaundice. My projects involve evaluating various screening techniques, such as transcutaneous bilirubinometers, and exploring the potential of a commercially available eHealth smartphone app. I also study the application of these techniques in home settings for otherwise healthy newborns. As this is an internationally relevant issue, part of my work focuses on comparing practices across Europe. By improving early diagnosis and treatment of neonatal jaundice, kernicterus may be prevented before it leads to severe, lifelong disabilities. While my primary work aims to enhance newborn care in the Netherlands, I hope to contribute to better outcomes for newborns worldwide.
