The Art of Recovery: A personal, visual journey captured in diaries and art

On Saturday, June 20, the festive presentation of the book De Kunst van Herstellen (The Art of Recovery) took place in the full and warmly attended Jantina Tammes Hall of the University Library Groningen, followed by the opening of an impressive exhibition featuring artworks by Desiree Uuldriks. The combination of the book launch and the exhibition opening demonstrated how powerful art can be as a language for experiences that are sometimes difficult to express in words.

This special afternoon focused on connection: between art, personal experiences, and scientific research. De Kunst van Herstellen shows how art can help make the process of recovery from depression visible, tangible, and open to discussion from within. At the same time, scientific insights from the Therap-i study provide depth, understanding, and recognition of recovery processes.

The authors, Desiree Uuldriks, Michelle Servaas, and Harriette Riese, warmly invite you to explore the book. De Kunst van Herstellen can be downloaded free of charge via University of Groningen Press at or ordered in print (hardcover). The exhibition remains on display until the end of August on the third and fourth floors of the University Library in Groningen.
