The 3rd UNAM–Groningen Symposium on Nanomedicine & Nano‑Biointerfaces Begins!

What an inspiring start to the 3rd UNAM–University of Groningen Symposium and School on Nanomedicine and Nano‑Biointerfaces!
Today we officially kicked off a week that brings together researchers from UNAM and the University of Groningen, united by a shared mission: Advancing nanomedicine, biomaterials, and nano‑biointerface technologies for global impact.

The opening session welcomed a full auditorium, with exceptional participation from graduate students, academics, and institutional leaders.

Visionary Opening Messages, where Professor Hélder A. Santos highlighted that this collaboration embodies academic excellence, social responsibility, and a commitment to training the next generation of scientists prepared to tackle global challenges.
The session also featured the presence of the Rector of UNAM, Dr. Leonardo Lomeli, and His Excellency André Driessen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Mexico.

World‑Class Academic Program
Throughout the week, faculty from the UMCG research and the Faculty of Science and Engineering - University of Groningen will deliver cutting‑edge lectures on:
✅ Nanomedicine
✅ Biomaterials
✅ Bioinspired and nanoscale technologies

Participating faculty include Dr. Hélder A. Santosélder Santos, Dr. M-Ali Shahbazi, Dr. Christoffer Åberg, Dr. Romana Schirhagl, Dr. Inge Zuhorn and Dr. Flávia Sousa.

Students at the Center
With +300 participants this year, the enthusiasm is remarkable. Students are truly at the heart of this initiative, future leaders of scientific innovation. This partnership continues to expand double‑degree PhD programs, mobility schemes, joint projects, and opportunities for cross‑institutional collaboration.

Heartfelt Appreciation and a huge thank‑you to the organizing committees at the Facultad de Química - UNAM, Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales - UNAM, IBt - Instituto de Biotecnología UNAM, and CFATA UNAM for making this initiative possible. Your dedication makes this ambitious, multi‑campus initiative possible.  Clarita Olvera Carranza | Gerardo Leyva Gómez | Eden Morales | Luz María López Marín | Remy Ávila Foucault | Yareli Rojas-Aguirre
