Head of research Section Elderly Care Medicine / Chair UNO-UMCG / Professor of Dementia and Elderly Care Medicine

My personal mission is to improve the quality of multidisciplinary care for people with dementia and other older persons dependent of care in nursing homes and in the community in collaboration with elderly care physicians and general practitioners. I have a strong passion to also collaborate with adjacent non-medical fields of science such as health care ethics, architecture, psychology, movement sciences, and (sensor) technology. In doing so we are able to embrace a lot of topics like personalized care, psychosocial interventions for challenging behaviour, movement programs, appropriate psychotropic and cardiovascular drug prescription for people with dementia, early detection of pain and delirium and the application of health care technology. The research is embedded to the University Network Of Elderly Care (UNO-UMCG) to be able to innovate, implement, educate and disseminate research.
