My research focuses on community-based health services in the Northern Netherlands and their potential to reduce reliance on formal healthcare in the context of population ageing and workforce shortages. Using mixed-methods and an interdisciplinary approach informed by health systems, spatial, and economic research, I study the availability and accessibility of these services, together with public awareness and their use. This can give us insights into regional disparities, supply-side challenges, and the factors that influence citizens’ decision-making.

Ultimately, my goal is to translate these insights to support policy development for a sustainable healthcare system.

This project is conducted in collaboration with the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health and CMO STAMM and is supported by a grant from the Ubbo Emmius Foundation (M20 PhD Scholarship Programme 2025).
