Maarten has worked for the Ministry of Education and the University of Groningen, where he worked as EU Liaison Officer and advisor to the Board of the University. As EU Liaison Officer he represented UG and UMCG in Brussels. As advisor to the Board he has been, amongst others, instrumental in setting up the University of the North. Maarten holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Groningen. He joined the UMCG and its Innovation Center in 2022 where he uses his contacts with governments, academia, funders and companies to help researchers fund their research and to put their innovation into practice.
