In her current role as project manager and business developer, Elena initiates and manages public-private partnerships. Elena has a research background from academia: after completing her studies in Industrial Biotechnology between Italy and Sweden, she moved to the University of Groningen, where she worked as PhD student and as PostDoc on multidisciplinary projects bridging microbiology of antibiotic-producing soil bacteria to mass spectrometry-based analysis and bioinformatics. Since 2016, she works at the UMCG where she oversees initiatives with a large public-private component, such as: BiomarkerBay BV, to provide services for validation, bioanalysis and clinical testing of novel biomarkers and companion diagnostics;  the UMCG PPP Allowance program, a funding instrument by the Dutch Top Sector Life Sciences & Health to support partnerships and the Personalised Implants Open Innovation Ecosystem, a regional endeavor to improve the workflow for design and manufacturing of personalised implants. Elena is also the founder of the UMCG Impact Team.
