Paediatrician-neonatologist

Clinically applicable research

As a clinically active neonatologist, my research is dedicated to studies that have a direct impact on clinical practice and daily care of the (pre)term newborn-infant. My specific focus areas include neonatal infectiology, palliative neonatal care and perinatal audits. The PhD project on Sudden Unexpected Postnatal Collapse (SUPC) in the Netherlands exemplifies this focus. The primary objectives of this study are to identify the circumstances, risk factors, and underlying aetiologies associated with SUPC, and to delineate modifiable elements of perinatal care within the Dutch healthcare system, as perceived by healthcare professionals and parents. Identifying these improvable factors will provide opportunities to  implement preventive measures  and enhance the timely recognition and management of SUPC.
