Both within and outside the UMCG, we help researchers, healthcare professionals and other employees with the development of their innovation.

Such an innovation could be all kinds of things: a new idea, product, service or concept. As long as it is innovative and contributes to a sustainable future of healthcare! We help during every stage of your innovation or collaboration, also when it is only still an idea. In fact: the sooner you come to us, the better!

Value of Knowlegde

The UMCG document The Value of Knowledge offers a practical guide for applying for patents in accordance with the basic rules for valorisation as formulated by the NFU. We can provide help in collaboration with UG IP & Business Development.

  • Do you have healthcare innovation ideas or a question related to innovating healthcare? Contact the Innovation Center via email.

    Please provide the following information when contacting us:

    • Name
    • Function
    • Department
    • Organisation
    • Contact details
    • Short description of your initiative
    • Help request

    We will contact you within three working days.

  • If we are able to help you with your innovation idea or help request, we will send you an invite for the Quickscan that fits your application. This is a set of questions to give us a more concrete image of your initiative. It is useful to prepare those questions, because it helps clarify your idea or request. We will discuss them with you in a meeting.

    Your idea or request is then discussed with the rest of the team. There are four possible outcomes:

    • We believe we can help you with your idea. Within 7 working days you will receive a proposal for continuation. We expect you to send a response within 5 working days.
    • We think another party within our network could help you better and we will reference you to them;
    • The development is promising, but we need additional information to come to a proposal for follow up;
    • The idea is not promising enough.

  • The support from the innovation center is customized, as there are often significant differences between projects: from a one-time written advice or an application, to developing a high quality plan together. Which form of support you will receive depends on multiple factors, such as the source of the innovation, the stage of development and the content of the innovation.

  • We always make sure to close any support process by an evaluation, so we can improve our services and the UMCG innovative capacity by the lessons learned.
