GRIAC hosted the 11th International Bronchitis Symposium

The Bronchitis Symposium has a longstanding history in Groningen, as the first event was organized in the 1960s where the discussions led to the basis of what is now called the ‘Dutch hypothesis’. Nowadays, GRIAC organizes the symposium every 5 years and this years’ theme was ‘Heterogeneity of lung disease in a changing environment’.

Over 150 participants and 25 renowned speakers from all over the world enjoyed three full days of high-quality scientific presentations and lively discussions divided over five scientific sessions: Heterogeneity of chronic lung disease, Environmental changes with impact on lung disease, The Aging lung, Bronchitis, and Innovative therapy. In addition, a total of 40 abstracts were presented by young researchers during an interactive poster discussion session and short oral presentations.

The winner of the Best Oral Presentation Award is Luke van der Koog (Molecular Pharmacology, RuG) and the winner of the Best Poster Award is Mughda Joglekar (Pathology and Medical Biology, UMCG).

The Symposium was officially opened by our Dean Wiro Niessen, and we had the honor closing the symposium by presenting the first GRIAC Life Time Achievement Award to Prof. Wim Timens from the department of Pathology and Medical Biology, celebrating his extraordinary contributions and dedication to GRIAC.
