Personal statement: As team leader of a small group of creative minds and as educator of new generations of scientists and academics, it is my ambition to guide and mentor these and other juniors in my institute and beyond to find their best fit to continuous learning and personal development. Furthermore, as university professor I see it as my responsibility to help make academia a safe place where all people are appreciated and respected. Research statement: Our research aims to gain insight into the molecular control of endothelial cell behaviour in the smallest blood vessels in the body, in health and disease. We collaborate with physicians and experts in molecular analyses and develop, validate, and apply miniaturized read-out technologies to tissues from humans and experimental models. We use the knowledge generated to identify endothelial targets and genuine biomarkers for the rational design and validation of (targeted drug delivery-based) therapies.
