Event

FAIR Data, FAIR Future: Bridging Academia and Healthcare

Period:
- 10:00 - 18:00
Symposium
Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen Blauwe Zaal & Fontein Patio

Join us on September 18 for the national symposium 'FAIR Data, FAIR Future: Bridging Academia and Healthcare.'

The event brings together diverse organizations working on FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices in the field of healthcare and healthcare research. We welcome researchers, research support staff, policy makers, funders, and health care practitioners from everywhere to explore how FAIR data is shaping the future of healthcare. Key discussions will focus on AI use, data protection, transparency, and public engagement—all in the context of the European Health Data Space. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the future of FAIR data in healthcare.

Participation is free.

The symposium is funded by the Open Science NL.

Workshops

FAITH in data

Anne-Marie Boeckel, Sabine van der Ham, Helena Veselska

Over the past eight years, we at FAITH (Frailty by Assessment, Intervention and Technology towards Health) Research have gained valuable insights into data exchange. In this workshop, we will share the pitfalls we encountered and the lessons we’ve learned. Additionally, we aim to gather input for future collaboration on data exchange between academic institutions such as Hanze and NHL Stenden, and healthcare organizations in the Northern Netherlands.

How synthetic patients can support medical research

Ligia Cayres Ribeiro

Synthetic patients are computer-generated models that simulate real patient data. They have the potential to diversify datasets and augment clinical research while safeguarding patient privacy. In this workshop we will provide an overview of tools for generating synthetic patients, share our experience with the process, and discuss methods to assess the quality of synthetic data.

Community management on the road towards FAIR data & future

Fieke Schoots, Lena Karvovskaya

We present the basics of the theory about communities and community management. Then, together with you we dive into the examples of existing communities within FAIR data in the domain of health.

Data autonomy: How much control do you have over your personal data?

Maurits Masselink

Researchers do not only generate research data, but also a lot of data about themselves. This constitutes data about research output, research interests, collaborators, the journals one reviews for, etc. This data becomes increasingly valuable, not only for the university, but also for publishers. Who owns this data, how is it used and how to get ownership of this data? In this workshop we will discuss the diverse aspects related to data autonomy and how to regain control over your own personal data.

Real World Data FAIRness

Lucy Overbeek

Data from electronic health records – also called real world data - are a rich source for healthcare research. In this workshop we will show how we have improved the FAIRness of Nivel Primary Care Database.
