Researcher Profile
Researcher

I am an Associate Professor in Mental Health and Prevention working at the University Center of Psychiatry (UMCG). I am also director of the Rob Giel Research Center, which is a collaboration of five large mental healthcare organisations in the North of the Netherlands.

My research focusses on prevention of mental disorders and promotion of mental health, ranging from identifying risk and protective factors for the development of mental disorders, developing and studying interventions to prevent intergenerational transmission of mental disease, to investigating implementation strategies for evidence based preventive interventions. To create impact in the region, I set up and manage ‘Mentaal Gezond Groningen” (Groningen Mental Health Program), a large evidence based prevention program, in which preventive interventions are evaluated, implemented and scaled up.
