Research
Exploring the characteristics of patients living with prolonged incurable cancer.

Recent therapeutic advancements in oncology have significantly extended survival outcomes for certain incurable cancer types, resulting in a growing population of patients living with prolonged incurable cancer. This emerging group faces unique challenges with regards to the integration of palliative as well as survivorship care.

Prior research concluded that this research field is premature, emphasizing the need for consensus on the terminology and definitions, as well as innovative use of existing data to better address the needs of this patient group.

How our research benefits to society

Our research addresses the growing, often-overlooked population of patients living prolonged with incurable cancer, aiming to establish clear definitions and data-driven insights. By establishing definitions and identifying care needs of this group, our work seeks to bridge care gaps and enable healthcare providers to deliver more targeted, effective care, enhancing both survivorship and palliative care standards for this growing population.

  • We aim to establish clear, consensus-based definitions for patients living with prolonged incurable cancer and harness existing data to uncover their unique care needs. Our goal is to bridge the gap between palliative and survivorship care, enabling healthcare providers to deliver targeted, effective interventions that enhance care quality for this growing patient population.
