Create a startup or spin-off company


If you want to bring your own idea further, you may want to consider setting up a company. The spin-off company can obtain a license from the UMCG on the patent and take the next steps in the product development. The Innovation Center can support you through each of the following phases towards running your own company. 

  1. Your idea will be developed further in a business case. Writing a business case will help you clarify the details around the product or service you aim to develop.
  2. When the business case shows enough potential to form a company, you will have to decide upon the structure of the company. Together, we will consider the required knowledge, expertise, and facilities, the IP situation and licensing needs, and who will take shares or manage the company. Initial researchers often play a key role, either by joining or supporting the spin-off.
  3. Then we will move on to drafting the actual business plan and start talking to the different stakeholders that will be involved. 
  4. Once the company has been founded, the Innovation Center will guide you to the many resources and organizations in the region that support entrepreneurs.
