Cardiologist Peter van der Meer receives ERC Consolidator Grant of €2 million

Professor of Cardiology Peter van der Meer has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). He is receiving this grant for his research into the origin of heart failure. The ERC Consolidator Grant is associated with amount of €2 million.

Stem cells and 3D-tissue

In his research, Peter van der Meer wants to understand why heart failure occurs using stem cells and 3D tissue. With his research he is also aiming to develop better treatments for patients. 

ERC Consolidator Grant 

The ERC Consolidator Grants are awarded to excellent researchers with at least seven and a maximum of twelve years of research experience and a promising scientific record. They must demonstrate the groundbreaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposal. Funding is provided for five years; this allows a team of researchers to be appointed in the research group of the awarded researcher.
