Advanced molecular imaging in critical care

During my PhD, I am investigating the use of PET/CT imaging within the Department of Critical Care (ICU). This collaborative project between the ICU and the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at UMCG focuses on harnessing PET/CT to improve care for critically ill patients. A central aim is enhancing the detection of infectious and inflammatory processes, for which FDG PET/CT is well-established outside the ICU. Since infection and inflammation are among the leading causes of ICU admission, these advancements could have significant clinical impact. Additionally, we are exploring novel tracers, such as FAPI, to advance translational research and bridge the gap between experimental findings and their application in critically ill patients.
