Bridging practice and research in midwifery care

As a primary care midwife and postdoctoral researcher I combine clinical practice with research on access to midwifery care. In my daily contact with pregnant women and their families, I see how important accessible and appropriate maternity care is. These experiences provide important input for our research on accessibility of care, particularly for women and families in vulnerable situations. Through the monitoring and evaluation of existing programmes within the Solid Start (Kansrijke Start) initiative, we seek to generate insights that can help strengthen equitable access to maternity care. Originally trained in molecular and cellular neurobiology, I completed a PhD in this field before transitioning to midwifery and midwifery research. I am excited to apply the research skills and scientific perspective I gained in neuroscience to midwifery research, contributing to evidence that can improve care for women and families.
