For patients with heart failure, the project focuses on advanced biosensors that enable non-invasive measurement of key biomarkers. 

Improving patient monitoring

The aim is to improve patient monitoring both in hospital and at home, allowing treatment to be tailored more closely to the individual patient. 

As part of the JTF project 'Improving Patient Care through Advanced Biomonitoring Solutions', UMCG collaborates with projectleader ParaMedir and several regional partners to develop innovative biomonitoring technology.

Researchers from the UMCG Departments of Cardiology, Intensive Care and Smart Implants contribute to the development and clinical validation of the technology. While the primary focus is on heart failure, the platform also has potential applications for other acute or chronic conditions, including kidney disease and diabetes. 

Upon successful completion, the project should empower and ease strain on healthcare systems and meet the needs of an aging population by producing innovative biomonitoring devices and software solutions. It aims to deliver advancements in technology, reduce healthcare costs, foster regional innovation, and create high-value job opportunities.
The project may also act as a stepping stone towards implantable biosensors, paving the way for future healthcare solutions.

Consortium

The project partners Paramedir, Gitgud Software Development, UMCG, Pieter Oomen Beheer, Stichting Zorggroep Tangenborgh and Stichting Hanzehogeschool Groningen together form a strong consortium within which important knowledge and expertise is available to bring this project to a successful conclusion.
