Support in innovative research and education

The visualization specialists at CIT focus on visualizing data and creating interactive xR environments and (custom) applications for the interaction with xR / 3D data. Consider, for example, obtaining research data or training skills in a virtual environment. They also offer the facilities and equipment that ensure an optimal experience of xR and 3D data, such as a 3D theater and a VR lab with various types of displays. With these techniques and facilities, the CIT wants to support researchers and teachers from the University of Groningen and the UMCG in innovative research and education.

Procedure and timeline

Project proposals can claim a maximum of 300 hours of support and development from one or more visualization specialists of the CIT. The aim is to fund three to four projects. Project work will start at the earliest in February 2021 and can (depending on the size of the project) be spread over several months. Funded projects will get access to the facilities of the VR lab. The possible purchase of materials can be provided from the budget of the VR hub with a maximum of € 7500 per project.

Proposals that meet the following criteria will be prioritized:

  • the application leads to a (larger) follow-up project or a grant application

  • the request is based on reuse / processing or application of existing data

  • the created content is multidisciplinary reusable

  • the created content has both a research purpose and an educational application

The deadline for applications is: Monday February 1, 2021 at 9:00 am.
