SHARE - Science in Healthy Ageing and healthcaRE

In our perception, health is everywhere and everything. Institute
In our perception, health is everywhere and everything.
Curiosity is our driving force. SHARE brings together researchers from various scientific backgrounds and enables them to explore health from all angles, mostly outside hospital walls. SHARE’s aim is to:
  • Improve patient adaptation to disease;
  • Improve societal participation of patients with chronic somatic and mental disease;
  • Study cost effectiveness and efficacy of pharmaceutical and psychosocial interventions.

SHARE’s research topics range from preconception to old age, from mental to physical health, and from personal to societal issues.

Relevance

Research to ensure healthy participation

Health is everywhere means that our focus is on the prevention of burden of disease for patients and their families and on healthcare costs and the consequences of disease.

SHARE’s aim is for patients and healthy people to be actively involved in society and to participate in social relationships as well as in the labour market. Lifestyle and promotion of physical activity have proven to be great prevention instruments.

SHARE promotes the use of these instruments in care and studies the benefits of prevention instruments to society as a whole.

  • We work together with municipalities in the province of Groningen, healthcare insurance companies, regional primary care organizations, and many international partners.

  • The Physician Implement Exercise is Medicine (PIE=M) project combines care and research to find answers to questions such as:

    • Why do or don’t specialists discuss physical activity with their patients?
    • How can SHARE support specialists and their patients?
    • Can advice on activity be personalized?
